EAST HIGH CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS
There will be a mandatory parent meeting on Wednesday March 10th at 6pm in the East High Library. The meeting will last about one hour and you will receive your tryout packet and learn what is expected of an East High Cheerleader.
Your tryout packet is due no later than March 24th. Be sure ALL pages are signed and completely filled out. Also be sure to give your recommendation forms to your teachers as early as possible, so that they have plenty of time to fill them out and return them. The tryout eligibility list will be posted outside room C222 by Friday March 26th. The list will solely be based on whether or not your packet is FULLY completed with your 4 recommendations turned in.
Varsity, JV, and Mascot Tryout Schedule
Applications Due: Wednesday, March 24th by 2:30pm
Workshops: All workshops and tryouts will be held in the small gym.
Monday, March 29th 2:15 – 4:30pm
Tuesday, March 30th 2:15 – 4:30pm
Wednesday, March 31st 2:15 – 4:30pm
Thursday, April 1st 6:30 – 7:30am (optional)
You must wear gym shoes and workout clothing to all workshops. You will not be allowed to participate if you are not wearing appropriate clothing and/or shoes.
Tryouts:
Thursday, April 1st 2:30pm – until we are finished
You should wear a plain, white T-shirt with sleeves. It should be long enough to be tucked in. You will be raising your arms and bare midriffs are against school dress code. You should wear gym shoes (white if possible), red shorts, or a short skirt with bootie shorts for girls, red shorts or warm-ups for men. If you have been or are currently a cheerleader, you may not wear any clothing that signifies so. Points will be deducted for inappropriate dress. You will want to look as neat as possible, so please wear your hair pulled back in a pony tail and out of your face. No jewelry should be worn. No gum.
Selection:
Selection will be based upon a combination of the judging and your packet score. You will be judged on your appearance, technique, showmanship, stunting ability/potential, sideline dance, jumps, kicks, and tumbling. Your packet will be scored based upon your evaluations and how well you answer the questions on the application.
JV – a team of approximately 10-12 sophomores and juniors will be selected. There is not a set number from each grade.
Varsity – a team of approximately 16 sophomores, juniors and seniors will be selected. There is not a set number from each grade. The Varsity team will be comprised of the overall top scores.
Mascot – 1 mascot will be chosen and announced along with the Varsity cheerleaders.
